What Ring Suits My Hand? True Diamond Built a Scanner to Answer That.
Most ring shopping starts with a guess. You walk in, point at what catches your eye, try it on, and hope it looks as good on your hand as it did in the case. True Diamond’s Noida flagship just replaced the guess with a 10-second scan.
Buying a diamond ring is one of the most personal purchases a person makes; and one of the most confusing. Cut, colour, clarity, carat, setting type, metal tone, finger proportions, skin undertone. Most people walk into a jewellery store with none of this knowledge and leave having trusted a salesperson’s instinct over their own.
True Diamond’s newly revamped Noida flagship store has built something to fix that. It is called True Match; a proprietary AI-powered hand analysis engine that scans a customer’s fingers and, within seconds, recommends the diamond shapes and gold tones genuinely suited to their hand. Not a sales pitch dressed up as a recommendation. An actual analysis.

WHY THIS EXISTS
Ring Shopping Has Not Changed in Decades. True Diamond Changed It.
Diamond rings is one of the most personal purchases a consumer makes, yet the buying experience often remains generic and confusing; the same showroom format, the same sales-led conversations, the same reliance on the customer simply knowing what suits them, which most people do not.
“Jewellery is one of the most emotional purchases a person makes, yet the buying experience has remained largely unchanged for decades. We wanted to build an experience that empowers the customer, that first understands not just what a customer likes, but why they like it. Our goal is to remove decision fatigue and help every customer discover a piece that genuinely feels like their own.”
— Darayus Mehta, Co-founder and Director, True Diamond
This is the problem True Match was built to solve. Most jewellery recommendations in India still come from one of two places: a salesperson’s instinct, or what is selling well that week. Neither factors in the actual geometry of the hand that will wear the ring for the rest of its life.
WORTH KNOWING
True Diamond is the brand behind the Portuguese cut; India’s only solitaire collection in a 160-facet cut exclusive to the brand; and the company built its reputation on a string of quirky micro-drama content series that has grown an online community of nearly 1 million people on Instagram in just two years. True Match is the brand’s first major investment in translating that same obsessive, detail-led approach into the physical retail experience.

HOW IT ACTUALLY WORKS
The Hand Scan, Explained
True Match does not require a consultation form or a lengthy conversation about preferences. It starts with the hand itself.
Step 1; The scan
A customer places their hand under the True Match scanner at the Noida flagship. The AI-powered engine captures finger shapes, length-to-width ratios, knuckle proportions, and skin undertone; the same variables a master jeweller would assess by eye, but measured with precision a human eye cannot replicate consistently across every customer, every time.
Step 2; The analysis
The system processes these measurements against established proportions for how different diamond shapes and ring styles interact with different hand geometries. A finger with a higher length-to-width ratio reads differently in an oval stone than in a round one. A wider knuckle benefits from a different band width than a slender one. Warm undertones respond differently to yellow gold than cool undertones do to white gold. True Match runs these calculations instantly.
Step 3; The recommendation
Within roughly seconds, the customer receives a personalised set of recommendations; specific diamond shapes and gold tones suited to their hand, paired with True Diamond’s interactive diamond education experience that explains why those shapes were recommended. This is the detail that distinguishes True Match from a simple sales tool: it teaches the customer the underlying logic, not just the output.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE RECOMMENDATIONS
Why Finger Shape Actually Changes What Looks Good
This is not a gimmick dressed up as technology. The relationship between finger proportions and diamond shape is a well-established principle in jewellery design; True Match simply applies it with more precision and consistency than the human eye alone.
The length-to-width ratio
Every diamond shape has a length-to-width ratio. A ratio of 1.00 means the stone is perfectly square or round. Anything above 1.00 means the stone is longer than it is wide; and the higher the ratio, the more elongated the visual effect on the finger. An oval diamond typically falls between 1.30 and 1.50. A marquise can run as high as 2.00 to 2.10. These numbers are not abstract; they directly determine how a stone reads on a specific hand.

Why skin undertone changes the metal recommendation
The same logic applies to gold colour. Warm undertones; skin with golden, peachy, or yellow hints, typically identified by greenish veins on the inner wrist; are flattered by yellow gold and rose gold. Cool undertones, with blue or purple-toned veins, are complemented by white gold and platinum. True Match identifies this from the hand scan itself, removing the guesswork most customers bring into a store.
WHY THIS MATTERS MORE THAN PEOPLE EXPECT
A diamond shape and metal tone that work against a hand’s natural proportions and undertone do not look bad exactly; they simply look less considered. The same ring, in the right shape and metal for that specific hand, reads as more deliberate, more expensive, and more like it was made for that person rather than picked off a shelf.

FOR COUPLES PLANNING A PROPOSAL
The Pre-Proposal Date — From ‘I Hope She’ll Like It’ to ‘I Know She Wants This’
True Match was built for anyone walking into the Noida store. But it solves a particular, very specific anxiety for one group of visitors: men who are about to propose and have absolutely no idea if the ring they are about to buy is the right one.
For exactly this reason, True Diamond has built the Pre-Proposal Date — an appointment-only evening at the Noida store, designed for couples who are planning to sneak in a proposal soon. It combines a curated ring trial, India’s first True Match Hand Analysis, and the chance to design the actual ring together — all positioned as a date, not a shopping errand.
“Pre-proposal jitters? Go from ‘I hope she’ll like this ring’ to ‘I know she wants this ring’… and plan a proposal she never saw coming.”
How the Pre-Proposal Date works
The format is simple by design. The True Match scan reads her hand shape, finger proportions, and skin undertone to recommend the diamond cuts, carat range, and metal colours that genuinely suit her — not a guess based on what looked good on someone else’s Instagram. From there, that report walks straight into a build-your-own-ring session, where a ring expert guides the couple through choosing the band, the stone, and the metal together.
The result solves the two things that quietly stress out almost every man before a proposal: not knowing if she will love the design, and not knowing if it will even fit. Both are removed from the equation before the ring is ever made.
TABLE — WHAT THE PRE-PROPOSAL DATE SOLVES
|
The usual proposal anxiety |
How the Pre-Proposal Date fixes it |
|
“What if she doesn’t like the design?” |
True Match recommends shapes and metals based on her actual hand — not a guess |
|
“What if the ring doesn’t fit?” |
Sizing is taken in person during the session, removing the most common proposal-day disaster |
|
“What if I get the style completely wrong?” |
She helps design the ring herself, in a session framed as a date — not a giveaway |
|
“Will the surprise still feel like a surprise?” |
She experiences being seen and chosen for; the proposal moment itself stays entirely yours |
The emotional logic here is worth pausing on, because it is easy to assume that designing a ring together ruins the surprise. It does not. She gets the experience of feeling truly understood — her hand studied, her preferences taken seriously, her input genuinely built into the piece. You still get to choose the moment, the words, and the unveiling. You simply remove the single biggest variable that causes second-guessing: not knowing if you got it right.
BOOKING THE PRE-PROPOSAL DATE
The experience is appointment-only and held in the evening at the Noida flagship store. Couples should book ahead through True Diamond’s WhatsApp or store contact channels, ideally a few weeks before the planned proposal date to allow time for any custom sizing or design adjustments.

MORE THAN A SINGLE VISIT
The Profile That Learns Over Time
True Match does not end when the customer leaves the store. The technology creates a secure, evolving preference profile for every customer; one that becomes more accurate with each interaction.
This means a customer who visits for an engagement ring today and returns two years later for an anniversary band, or a push present, or a self-purchase solitaire, does not start from zero. True Diamond already understands their hand, their style direction, and how their taste may have shifted with new occasions and life milestones.
“This transforms jewellery shopping from a transactional purchase into an ongoing relationship.”
This is a meaningful shift in how Indian jewellery retail typically works. Most jewellery purchases are treated as one-off transactions; a wedding purchase, a gift purchase, done. True Match positions True Diamond differently: as a brand that remembers the customer’s hand, not just their order history.

THE STORE ITSELF
The Noida Flagship Was Built Around This Experience
True Match is not a kiosk bolted onto an existing showroom. It is the centrepiece of a revamped flagship store; the Designer Rings Atelier in Noida’s Sector 18; designed specifically around a ring-focused, technology-led retail format.
The store moves away from the conventional multi-category jewellery showroom model in favour of a space where rings take centre stage; warm Scandinavian interiors in a minimalist beige and red palette, with a sculptural chandelier installation anchoring the room. Every display is built to engage customers with the story behind the rings, from the design process to the technology that defines each piece.
The experience is currently available exclusively at the Noida flagship and will be rolled out to other True Diamond locations; including Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Pune and more; over the coming months.

WHY THIS MATTERS FOR THE INDUSTRY
India’s Jewellery Retail Has Been Waiting for This
Lab grown diamonds solved the affordability and accessibility problem in Indian fine jewellery. What remained unsolved was the decision-making problem; the fact that most buyers, even with more affordable options available, still do not know how to choose confidently.

Questions About the True Match Experience
What is True Match at True Diamond?
True Match is True Diamond’s proprietary AI-powered hand analysis technology, available at the brand’s Noida flagship store. It scans a customer’s finger shapes, proportions, and skin undertone to generate personalised recommendations for diamond shapes and gold colours, paired with an interactive diamond education experience.
How does the True Match hand scan work?
A customer places their hand under the True Match scanner, which uses AI to analyse finger shape, length-to-width ratios, and skin undertone. Within approximately 10 seconds, the system generates personalised diamond shape and gold tone recommendations based on established jewellery design principles.
Is the True Match experience free?
Yes; the True Match hand scan and recommendation experience is complimentary for customers visiting the True Diamond Noida flagship store. No prior appointment or purchase is required to use it.
Where is True Match available?
True Match is currently available exclusively at True Diamond’s Noida flagship store; the Designer Rings Atelier in Sector 18. The brand has announced plans to roll the experience out to its other stores, including Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Pune, over the coming months.
Does finger shape actually affect which diamond ring looks best?
Yes. Diamond shapes have specific length-to-width ratios that interact differently with different finger proportions. Elongated shapes like oval, pear, and marquise tend to visually lengthen shorter or wider fingers, while rounder shapes like round brilliant and cushion balance longer, slender fingers. This is an established principle in jewellery design that True Match applies with AI-driven precision.
Does skin tone affect which gold colour suits a ring?
Yes. Warm undertones; typically identified by greenish veins on the inner wrist; are generally flattered by yellow gold and rose gold. Cool undertones, with blue or purple-toned veins, are typically complemented by white gold and platinum. True Match identifies undertone as part of its hand scan and factors this into its recommendations.
Can I use True Match if I am buying a ring for someone else?
Yes, though for the most accurate recommendation, the actual wearer’s hand should be scanned. If you are planning a surprise proposal and cannot bring your partner in, True Diamond’s in-store consultants can help estimate proportions, or you can visit together as part of the broader ring discovery experience once the surprise has been revealed.
What happens to my True Match data after my visit?
True Diamond creates a secure, evolving customer preference profile based on the True Match scan, which is used to make future recommendations more relevant as your tastes, occasions, and life milestones change. This profile is intended to support an ongoing relationship with the brand rather than a single transactional visit.
